This class is made up of 12 lessons. Students in this class will learn to properly develop a purpose, topic, and thesis for an argumentative essay. They will present an argument that attempts to persuade their reader into understanding the student's unique point of view on a topic of their choice. They will learn and review how to create MLA citations, and they will learn how to choose sources for their essay. The students will be able to distinguish between effective sources and ineffective sources for supporting their essay's point of view. They will learn how to identify counter arguments and how to refute them. The students will write their essays focusing on supporting details, effective counter arguments, and persuasive word choices that reflect the extensive research they have completed on their topic. They will solidify the accuracy of their thesis statement and validity of their sources by constructing an effective essay that can persuade their readers to consider the writers point of view. The students will also get to present their essay to the class and receive appropriate peer feedback.
