NEW Creative Writing, Poetry, & Adult Writing Courses!
The best learning happens in the moment. One of the most effective ways we support this at Writing Symphony is through Real-Time Editing (RTE). This means teachers review each student’s writing during class instead of marking it later and sending it home with comments.
In most traditional classrooms, teachers collect student work, edit it outside of class time, and return it days later with written feedback and a grade. While helpful, this method often misses the chance to reinforce writing skills right when students need it most.
Our approach is different. During each lesson, our teachers review homework and writing assignments live, with the student present. Instead of simply pointing out mistakes, the teacher turns editing into a discussion. They ask questions, give immediate suggestions, and help the student understand not just what needs fixing, but why.
This real-time guidance has several benefits:
Small class sizes make this possible. In a small group, students benefit not only from feedback on their own work but also from listening to their peers’ editing sessions.
Sometimes homework is not fully finished, and that is okay. The goal is not perfection but steady progress. In a single-student class, the teacher can work with the student to complete parts of the homework together if the student is unable to finish it on their own or has questions.
Each lesson reinforces key writing ideas, and every editing conversation helps students grow into thoughtful, capable communicators. Real-Time Editing is one of the reasons Writing Symphony students stand out. It is a simple but powerful practice that turns feedback into a tool for growth, confidence, and lasting writing success.
