Tempo Course Overview

The Tempo course focuses on enhancing essential skills such as reading comprehension, vocabulary building, and reading fluency. With weekly 30-minute lessons, this course is ideal for first graders who are ready to embark on their journey of language development. As the course progresses, students will gradually be introduced to the writing process, starting with vocabulary building in the early modules and progressing toward more complex writing skills. Weekly lessons in the Tempo course include a mix of vocabulary terms and source texts carefully selected to improve reading and writing abilities. These lessons will ensure that your child is not only building literacy skills but also gaining a deeper understanding of how language works.

A Structured, Progressive Curriculum

The Tempo course consists of eight modules, each designed to build upon the previous one. As students advance through the course, they will tackle new concepts and strengthen their skills in both reading and writing. Each module is broken down into four lessons, allowing students to absorb key concepts and practice new skills at a steady pace.Here is a breakdown of the course modules:

• Module 1: Vocabulary Building In this module, students will focus on expanding their vocabulary through engaging activities. A strong vocabulary is essential for both reading comprehension and effective communication.
• Module 2: Introduction to Summarizing Students will learn how to extract key points from a text and summarize them. This important skill will help them better understand what they read.
• Module 3: Summarizing Building on the skills learned in Module 2, students will practice summarizing texts with more complexity, enhancing their comprehension and analytical skills.
• Module 4: Introduction to Topic Sentences Students will be introduced to the concept of topic sentences, an essential component of clear and structured writing.
• Module 5: Topic Sentences In this module, students will focus on developing strong topic sentences that set the stage for coherent writing.
• Module 6: Supporting Details This module teaches students to add supporting details to their writing, strengthening their ability to develop ideas and provide evidence for their thoughts.
• Module 7: Introduction to Outline of Focused Facts (OFF) Students will begin to learn how to organize their ideas and facts into a clear outline, helping them structure their writing effectively.
• Module 8: Outline of Focused Facts The final module helps students refine their outlining skills, allowing them to organize their thoughts and focus on key facts to build stronger arguments and narratives.
