Echo Course Overview

At Writing Symphony, our Echo level is designed specifically for fifth-grade students who are ready to take their writing to the next level. Through a combination of engaging virtual lessons and independent writing practice, students build the skills they need to write with clarity, purpose, and structure.

Each week, Echo students are introduced to new vocabulary words and grammar concepts that are immediately applied in their writing. Lessons are designed to help students organize their thoughts using our Outline of Focused Facts (OFF) format, a proven method for building well-structured and detail-rich paragraphs. Students are encouraged to “think before they write,” laying the foundation for thoughtful, intentional writing.

Strengthening Core Writing Skills

The Echo course provides opportunities for students to strengthen their sentence structure, develop descriptive language, and expand their vocabulary through the use of engaging, age-appropriate source texts. These texts span a variety of topics and genres, encouraging curiosity and providing models of strong writing.

As they progress through the course, students begin to recognize the importance of word choice, sentence variety, and paragraph structure. Weekly grammar instruction helps students apply more advanced language skills to their work, leading to clear, polished writing over time.

A Focus on Critical Thinking

In Echo, students begin to make the shift from simply writing sentences to crafting ideas. Lessons are designed to strengthen critical thinking and organization, guiding students to choose focused, high-quality words and to support their ideas with relevant details. The use of OFFs throughout the course helps students break down information, identify key points, and build writing that is both meaningful and easy to follow.
