Andante Course Overview

Our Andante level is designed for seventh-grade students who are ready to take their academic writing to the next level. This course blends structured writing instruction with critical thinking, grammar support, and practical writing strategies that prepare students for the rigorous demands of high school writing.

Through live virtual lessons, students gain experience writing in a variety of formats, including expository essays, personal narratives, and literary responses. Each lesson includes direct instruction, vocabulary and grammar integration, and guided practice using our proven methodology.

Developing Academic Writing Through Structure and Strategy

In Andante, students begin by learning how to extract key ideas from a source and organize their thoughts using the Outline of Focused Facts (OFF). This foundation supports every piece of writing they complete throughout the course, from summaries to structured five-paragraph essays.

Students continue developing critical thinking skills by learning how to construct thesis statements, organize supporting details, and apply transitions and stylistic techniques to improve clarity and flow. Weekly grammar and vocabulary instruction reinforces the technical side of writing, while frequent feedback encourages students to revise and improve their work.

Essay Writing, Narratives, and Literary Analysis

Throughout the course, students write three major essays: a five-paragraph academic essay, a personal narrative, and a literary response. Each writing unit is broken into manageable steps, including brainstorming, planning, drafting, and revision. This gives students the tools they need to write with confidence and independence.

By the end of the program, Andante students will have practiced several forms of academic writing, learned how to support ideas with textual evidence, and gained strategies for writing with purpose, structure, and style.
