Look for clarity and coherence in expression, checking if ideas are logically organized and the writing serves a clear purpose. Pay attention to grammar and mechanics, guiding spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure as needed.

Assess your child's vocabulary, encouraging varied and appropriate words to enrich their expression. Examine the depth of content, seeking evidence of critical thinking, analysis, and the development of ideas. Evaluate the introduction and conclusion to determine their ability to effectively engage the reader and summarize key points.

• Look For Ways Your Student’s Writing Displays Complex Sentence Structure

Observe the variety of sentence structures in your child's writing, encouraging them to experiment with different lengths and structures. Consider the voice and tone, ensuring that your child's unique voice is evident and that the tone aligns with the intended audience and purpose. Read what your children write. Gauge your child's passion for writing, looking for enthusiasm in their choice of topics and their effort in their writing.  Encourage the hesitant writer to recognize that writing is a practice learned well over time. A genuine interest in writing is a powerful motivator for continuous improvement.
