Part I: At the core of any type of great speech or presentation is a well-told story. Stories take us on a mental and emotional journey that connects the speaker with the audience. A valuable first step in learning how to tell an engaging story is through learning about and crafting tall tales. In this Summer Camp, students will listen to and explore the backgrounds of many beloved tall tales, while working in small groups to create their own tall tales. At the conclusion of this class, students will present their original stories to their classmates and teacher.
Part II: Continuing from Dramatic Storytelling Part I, students will analyze additional tall tales. By the end of this Summer Camp, students will have created their own tall tale that takes their audience on an exciting journey which connects the speaker and the audience. Students will present their creative tall tales to their classmates and teacher on the last day of the course. Part I must be completed prior to taking Part II.
